As energy costs rise and building science evolves we have become aware that air leakage infiltration/exfiltration in a building is one of the largest contributing factors to energy costs.The Department of Energy reports that up to 50% of the cost of heating and cooling a home is wasted  due to air leakage.Traditional air permeable insulations slow down the loss of the air-seal and contains the conditioned air within the building envelope reducing the energy usage by 50% to 60 % for the life of the building.

The use of Spray Foam Insulation allows for the creation of an unvented attic assembly.This allows the HVAC duct work to be within semi-condition space reducing the load on the HVAC equipment by 25% to 30% allowing for a 25% reduction in the size of  the HVAC  equipment. The duct work is running through a portion of the building that is 70 to 100 degrees cooler and any duct leakage is contained within the conditioned  envelope. The unvented attic assembly also eliminates moisture in the attic that leads to mold and mildew

Cal-Fire recently issued the new Wildland Urban Interface Building Standards,which have been designed to reduce the number of houses which burn during wild/urban fires.It was discovered, during detailed studies of past fire events, that the single largest contributing factor to homes  burning was  heat,flames and embers entering the homes through their attic vents.
